Dena MoskowitzMy life has become even more natural since my son, Ben, came into our lives. We realized that modeling good citizenship was—and is—especially important. But it’s also tougher now with the demands of work and family. So we do what we can. We recycle, and Ben knows which baskets are for which materials, and we look for ways to reuse—like wrapping gifts in old maps and making cards from Ben’s pictures. We also enjoy organic foods. They taste better, are higher in nutrients and help us use our dollars in a good way.

I began this conscious way of living almost 20 years ago. It was 1990, and I was 22. I decided to travel around the US after graduating from a liberal arts college in New York, where I grew up. I landed in Santa Barbara, California. They had a weekly farmers’ market and classes in edible and medicinal plants. I began to explore nature and health in new ways. When I knew it was time to move back to New York, I spoke with a friend who told me charming stories of his job. He was working in shipping for Weleda and also picking Biodynamic® calendula flowers for the Weleda Baby Calendula Care products. (We now get to work together.)

Since 1991, I have worked with Weleda. I have always been happy that what we do benefits the health of people and our planet.

My family and I live in Nyack, New York—a 10-minute commute to Weleda’s North American headquarters. My husband commutes to his job in New York City on mass transit, and we walk to stores, our local library and playgrounds on the weekend. Ben goes to a preschool, Peace through Play, where he enjoys music, movement and art—all through cooperative learning. Their philosophy blends well with our efforts at home.

Weleda products are such an important part of our lives. I consider them to be friends that are there for me when I need them. Using the Baby Calendula Care products on Ben gave me a whole new understanding of how gentle and protective the products are for children. Ben loves Calendula Oil and Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash, and I can’t live without Skin Food, Salt Toothpaste, Almond Cleansing Lotion, Arnica Ointment, Wound Care … there are too many to name! My family is definitely a Weleda family!
