Weleda Sponsors The GreenShows Eco Fashion Week
2/9/2010 7:52:09 AM

To me, Weleda is more than just a skin care company. It’s also a lifestyle. It’s about treading lightly. Giving back. Reconnecting. Finding balance. Living naturally. We are Weleda each time we buy organic food, reuse shopping bags, walk instead of drive, plant a flower or care for our skin with purely natural ingredients.

It’s in this spirit, in support of the Weleda way of life, that we decided to sponsor The GreenShows Eco Fashion Week, the only event committed to environmentally friendly, ethically sound and fair trade fashion during New York Fashion Week. Over this four-day event, starting on February 14th, 10 eco-minded global designers will showcase their fall/winter 2010 collections. We’ve teamed up with design visionary Gary Harvey, who is creating a one-of-a-kind garment made from our Skin Food packaging! He will unveil the dress at his runway show on opening night. I can only imagine what it’s going to look like, but I know that it’s going to be—well, green. Very green.

Sometimes I think natural skin care and eco-fashion can get a little lost amid the hubbub of green architecture, fancy energy-efficient cars and renewable energy. But cotton is considered the planet’s “dirtiest” crop. It covers 2.5% of the world’s cultivated land use yet uses 16% of the world’s insecticides, according to the Organic Trade Association. It’s important that we move toward a more sustainable fashion industry and support materials that are grown without harm to the land, to the farmers, and to all of us.

That said, we are excited to spread our passion for beauty, wellness and environmental respect during Fashion Week! Check us out on Facebook and Twitter for updates on The GreenShows, and for more information on the amazing designers who will be presenting their collections, visit www.thegreenshows.com.
