The organic lifestyle is nothing new to John Marrone. In the late '70s, when he was just 25, he took a trip to California, where he was amazed by how many people shared his desire to live a natural, healthy life. He came back to New Jersey with a dream to open a store that would sell natural, nutritious foods for the whole body. He quickly turned that dream into a reality. In 1978, he opened Organica Natural Foods in Northvale, NJ, about 15 miles north of New York City. His brother Mark became his business partner one year later.
Initially, Organica was a tiny store front, but it has since expanded three different times. It's now well-merchandised, stocked with a complete line of vitamins, health and beauty aids, bulk foods, grains, gift items and organic skin care, including a wide assortment of Weleda products, from body oils to bath soaks. Healthy and flavorful food choices are available at the juice bar and take-out deli, where a new selection of prepared foods await hungry visitors at breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Full disclosure: the Weleda team that works in Palisades, New York, arrives by carload every day around noon. My favorite dish? The Tempeh Salad. It's the best!)
John says that all of the sales consultants on staff at Organica are thoroughly and skillfully trained and can answer shoppers’ toughest questions. “Among the Northvale community, Organica is synonymous with high quality,” says John. “We offer our customers affordable pricing on a wide variety of superior organic products.”
Each weekend, Organica hosts exciting events, including food tastings, health and beauty aid demos, and on-site skin care consultations. If you live in the area, John, Mark and the entire Organica staff invite you to stop by to experience the exceptional service and, of course, the prepared foods. “We promise you a delightful and delectable experience,” says John, “that you will want to repeat many times.” My Weleda colleagues and I will certainly attest to that!
