Retailer Spotlight - The Big Carrot in Toronto
3/26/2010 3:27:39 PM
With 50 owners and 200 employees, The Big Carrot in Toronto is one of the largest worker-owned co-ops in all of Canada. It’s grown quite a lot since it was founded in 1983, with just 12 members. Today, one of the store's greatest strengths is the accumulated knowledge and experience of its members and staff. The store maintains exacting standards, which have evolved through its 25 years of searching for nature’s finest—in both food and personal care.

The Big Carrot stocks almost all of Weleda's skin and body care products, and they sell more of our products than any other store in all of Canada! The employees are well-versed in Weleda and can answer any question your may have about our products. They believe in sharing their knowledge and experience with customers and providing them with the tools they need to make informed, healthy choices. Another element to The Big Carrot’s continued success is their commitment to education and continuous research into healthy, organic food production.

The store boasts a popular organic juice bar, holistic dispensary and on-hand nutritionists with whom you can book free (yes, free!) hour-long sessions. They offer an extremely popular (and also free) Thursday night lecture series on a variety of health issues.

The Big Carrot strives to always offer their customers local, organic products, and make it as easy as possible to identify them while browsing the aisles. They’ve even implemented a new “local labeling” system. These labels can be found not only in the produce and grocery aisles, but throughout the entire store—even in the body care, supplement and appliances departments. Anything to make life easier, and healthier, for patrons.
