Sun Safety for Your Skin
The dog days of summer are here. Despite the heat, it’s still great to be outdoors, but whenever I set eyes on sunburned shoulders or bright red faces, I cringe—not just because it must be painful, but also because sunburns seem to be a risk factor for developing skin malignancies down the road. You may have heard that skin cancers are on the rise. Of the three types of skin malignancies, melanoma is the most dangerous. The number of bicyclists that all of a sudden turned up on Route 9W, the popular biking route near Weleda’s headquarters, was quite staggering, and for me it was time to saddle up as well! It’s a rather scenic ride along the Hudson River, and I like to do my part for the environment by bicycling to the office. I am admittedly a fair-weather rider, so there is no need to look for me on the trails unless it is nice outside. The first ride of the season is always such a joy,...

Ingredient Spotlight: Chamomile
Summer is finally here and our chamomile flowers are in full bloom! Chamomile flowers are little, but they are special in a big way. You might know this flower best for its ability to be dried and made into delicious, calming tea, but here at Weleda it is known more as one of the amazing ingredients in our skin care and medicines. Also known as German Chamomile or Wild Chamomile, this annual herb blooms small white flowers. I think they look just like daisies. The best time to spot them is between May and August. They grow prolific throughout Europe and northern Asia. Chamomile is very fine and must be harvested by hand, then cleaned of soil and...
