Jim in Germany: Getting to Know Colleagues
5/13/2010 12:37:28 PM

I recently attended the annual Weleda International Controllers Meeting in Luzern, Switzerland. Besides the fact that the meeting took place in such a beautiful location, the opportunity was amazing for me.  Weleda Controllers like myself, and CFOs from all of the respective countries where our products are distributed, gather together each year for this meeting. Although we come from countries as diverse as the USA, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Argentina and Czech Republic—to name a few—we all have at least two things in common: a love of finance and Weleda. We take this opportunity to discuss better business practices, new reporting tools and common issues or trends we are experiencing in each of our respective countries.

During my time at Weleda, I have always wondered how people in other countries perceive us. It was great to hear stories from my fellow controllers of how people love Weleda across all markets in the world.  I am relatively new here, but most controllers have been with the company for five or more years, and many of the CFOs have been with Weleda for at least 10.  I think the reason people stay for so long is because of the connection you feel to the company once you’re a part of it.

Although my time at Weleda Germany is coming to an end, and I’ll be back at my desk at Weleda North America soon, my experience working at Weleda AG has been amazing. Being on an international level, and seeing how dedicated the people behind the scenes are to their work and to our products, has only bolstered my positive feelings for the company.

As for the meeting in Switzerland,  I left feeling much closer to many of my colleagues from other countries, and I look forward to seeing them again next year!
