April in our Gardens: Spring has Sprung!
April is fantastic—the garden is in its full youthful splendor again! This month we will plant a few new plant species that we’ve never cultivated before, including ginseng, Cardiospermum halicacabum (balloon vine), Mesembryanthemum crystallinum (common iceplant), Alchemilla (lady’s mantle). They are all beautiful and important for our plant-based prescription medicines. We harvest Primula veris (cowslip, pictured right) this month. We use an extract from this plant in our Cordiodoron Tablets, which supports heart health. It’s a very nice but laborious plant for us. Jim in Germany: Committing to Sustainability
Since I started working at Weleda, I’ve known that the company holds to strict environmental principles. Now that I have been working in the office in Germany, I’ve learned about a few initiatives that the company is undertaking here to further our commitment to sustainability. One such initiative is the company bike policy. Weleda Germany (Weleda AG) has bicycles that employees can check out and use to ride into town for lunch or to the second office location (about 1.5 miles away) or just to get some fresh air during the day.  I look forward to riding and visiting my colleagues down the road this spring. Signs of Spring in our Gardens
Old man winter just won’t give up here! Just when we thought he was gone for good, he returned again. For nearly a week, we had sun and our ducks were running all over the garden, having fun and looking for something to eat. Then it snowed and we had to put them back in the greenhouse—at least for now, until it warms up again. In the Customer Center at Weleda Naturals, in Wetzgau, Germany, the telephone is ringing off the hook—a sure sign that spring is on the way.
