The Benefits of Baby Massage
We recently started offering baby massage, and baby massage classes, at our spa in Palisades, NY. I sat down with Patricia Pol, our infant massage therapist and instructor, to ask her about the benefits of massaging your baby. Little did I know there would be so many! Here's what she told me.   Me: What are the benefits of baby massage? Patricia: There are so many! Massage helps improve your baby’s sleeping patterns and digestion. It can also ease congestion and soothe babies with colic. Using long strokes helps with muscle coordination and aids development. It can even help them build up the strength in their neck,...

Calendula Baby Care 101
We get a lot of questions in customer service about our Calendula Baby Care: Which products should I use on my new baby? When can I start using the Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash? It reminds me of when Ben was a newborn—I was supercareful and scared to even bathe him. But. as you can see from this photo, he's a big boy now. Although keeping an infant’s skin clean is important, bathing a baby every two or three days is sufficient. I always tell customers to bathe newborns with the Calendula Cream Bath. It’s added to the bath water, sponged on and leaves a soothing, protective layer of moisture on your baby’s skin. I still use...

Product Spotlight: Iris Moisture Cream
This week on Twitter and Facebook we’re talking about our Iris Facial Care and how it’s ideal for combination skin. So in keeping with this topic, I decided to focus on the Iris Moisture Cream for this month’s Product Spotlight. Iris Moisture Cream is wonderful all year round, but it’s especially great this time of year, when the weather starts to change and the days become sunnier and warmer. That often leads, for many of us, to a not-so-welcome increase in our skin's oil production. Still, even if your skin is oily, a lightweight moisture cream will help prevent surface dryness and keep it healthy. Iris Moisture Cream provides light yet...

Spring Awakening: March in our Gardens
This month it is gray, cold and wet in our Biodynamic® gardens at Weleda Naturals in Wetzgau, Germany. But I love it when the birds return and start singing, the sun becomes a little brighter, and the first tiny tops of our perennial plants appear from the soil. I also love it when our gardeners return!  It’s an exciting moment when we meet each other again, after four months of winter break. This is the time of year when we start plant production in the greenhouse; we cultivate nearly all of our annual and perennial plants inside before we plant them out in the garden. Each young plant has its own germination needs. Some seeds require a special...

Best of Social Media: February
A big thanks to the many thousands of you who are now connecting with us on Facebook and on Twitter! I’m sure that, back in 1921, our company founders, Dr. Rudolf Steiner and Dr. Ita Wegman, could have never envisioned a day when we would engage with our fans in a digital world. But they believed in a personal approach to health care and wellness, so I think they would be happy knowing we are connecting with you and sharing our passion for beauty and wellness throughout the world, even if it's a virtual one. Weleda is about cultivating beauty with ingredients straight from the earth, and we're always trying to think up fresh ways we can...

Retailer Spotlight: Organica Natural Foods
The organic lifestyle is nothing new to John Marrone. In the late '70s, when he was just 25, he took a trip to California, where he was amazed by how many people shared his desire to live a natural, healthy life. He came back to New Jersey with a dream to open a store that would sell natural, nutritious foods for the whole body. He quickly turned that dream into a reality. In 1978, he opened Organica Natural Foods in Northvale, NJ, about 15 miles north of New York City. His brother Mark became his business partner one year later. Initially, Organica was a tiny store front, but it has since expanded three different times. It's now well-merchandised,...
