Ingredient Spotlight: Biodynamic Sea Buckthorn

Sea buckthorn needs one thing more than anything else: sunlight! This plant soaks up the sun’s rays to create radiant, golden-red berries. One look at them and you just know they must to be good for you—and they are!

Kurt Kunzi, aka The Sea Buckthorn King, grows our Biodynamic sea buckthorn under the warm Tuscan sunshine.Sea buckthorn is proven to contain a rich cocktail of antioxidants and health benefits. It's rich in unsaturated fatty acids, pro-vitamin A and vitamin E, which help protect our skin from UV radiation and free-radical damage associated with signs of aging. What’s more, it possesses antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and the easily absorbed oils support the buildup of the skin’s lipid layers.

The variety of sea buckthorn we use is called Gala 7. It was found to be best suited for obtaining sea buckthorn oil for skin care. We source our sea buckthorn from a farmer in Tuscany, Kurt Kunzi, whom we’ve designated The Sea Buckthorn King. He was the first person to grow sea buckthorn using Biodynamic® cultivation methods.

We take his amazing sea buckthorn berries, freshly pressed off the vine, and combine both the pulp and seed oil with other key ingredients, like organic sesame seed oil, to create our Sea Buckthorn Creamy Body Wash, Body LotionHand Cream and Body Oil. Use these products after a long summer day in the sun to replenish and nourish your skin. They’re also perfect in the winter, when your body, soul and spirit need a boost of—well, sunshine!

So tell us! Have you used our sea buckthorn products? If so, what did you think of them? We'd love your feedback!
