Weleda Sponsors The GreenShows Eco Fashion Week
To me, Weleda is more than just a skin care company. It’s also a lifestyle. It’s about treading lightly. Giving back. Reconnecting. Finding balance. Living naturally. We are Weleda each time we buy organic food, reuse shopping bags, walk instead of drive, plant a flower or care for our skin with purely natural ingredients. It’s in this spirit, in support of the Weleda way of life, that we decided to sponsor The GreenShows Eco Fashion Week, the only event committed to environmentally friendly, ethically sound and fair trade fashion during New York Fashion Week. Over this four-day event, starting on February 14th, 10 eco-minded global designers will...

Snowed In: Our Gardens in February
This month, our Biodynamic® gardens are beautiful and calm. Everything is covered with snow. Occasionally a few birds fly around, searching for food. Not much is growing, but there are a few exceptions. Helleborus niger (black hellebore) and Daphne mezereum (Daphne) are two medicinal plants that seem to have a totally different rhythm from most others. They flower even when there is snow! Helleborus niger has a fascinating white flower, while Daphne mezereum is a low-growing shrub with lovely, yet toxic, purplish-pink flowers. Each morning, I sit with the other Weleda gardeners and we discuss many topics, including the results of our soil tests, how...

Best of Social Media: January
January has been a fun month for us on Twitter and Facebook! Our community is steadily growing, and we have the greatest fans and followers any brand could hope for. A highlight for us this month--and we hope for you as well--was our Sunflower Haiku contest on Facebook. We picked two winners: Jennifer Hutzel, who received our Pomegranate Regenerating Body Care; and Karina Le, who is only eight-years-old and recited her winning Haiku off the top of her head! We sent her our Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash and Calendula Lotion. We also gave a Lavender Relaxing Body Oil to one lucky fan, Ryan Louise, who wrote this on our Facebook wall:  “I can only...

Serene Scene: Weleda Naturals in January
The Customer Center at Weleda Naturals, in the small village of Wetzgau, Germany, was built in 2006. It’s a small building on one edge of Weleda’s expansive Biodynamic® gardens, with just enough room for our visitor center, a shop, our offices and an organic restaurant, which is normally bustling with people. It is January now, however, so everything is still, peaceful and serene. The garden sleeps under nearly eight inches of snow; our ducks stay in a glass house with a heater; our tour guides are on vacation. In nice weather, when everything is in bloom, we manage sightseeing tours through the gardens, and we also hold seminars and wellness...

Five Steps to Softer Hands
Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream is rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants to nourish and restore dry, rough hands. Pair it with this simple five-step massage, courtesy of natural skin care expert Celia Lang, to cultivate beautiful hands and relieve tension. Wash your hands in a basin of warm water. For a luxurious experience, add Weleda Calendula Cream Bath to water and soak your hands for three minutes to help relax muscles and soften skin. Apply a small amount of Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream and begin the massage by smoothing hand cream all over your hands and wrists. A gentle wrist wringing will relax the...

A Day in the Weleda Pharmacy
One of the things I love about working at Weleda is that there is always something new to learn. Just this Monday, for example, our chief pharmacist, Petra, invited me and my colleagues to stop by the compounding pharmacy inside our headquarters in Palisades, NY. It was the perfect opportunity for us to learn what Petra and her team do all day in their white coats and hair nets, surrounded by glass bottles and crazy contraptions only a mad scientist could love. What amazes me is the contrast between the stark white, sterile environment of the pharmacy and its raison d'être: to make medicines that heal people and make them feel better. Petra told us...
