Fall arrived in earnest here in the Northeast. Most of the trees have already dropped their leaves, and nature seems to be winding down for a period of rest. This is very much in contrast with all the activity in our compounding pharmacy, which is located in the very same building as our North American headquarters in Palisades, NY. During late fall and winter, we receive many prescriptions for our homeopathic cold and flu remedies. A product that is frequently ordered is our Eucalyptus/Archangelica comp ointment.
This homeopathic ointment is suitable for both children and adults. Applied to the chest and back, it helps with chest congestion and coughs—it’s also helpful for stuffy noses. Because of its pleasant smell (think eucalyptus, thyme and rosemary), it’s an ointment we love to compound.
Once applied, the warmth of the body releases the scent slowly and helps relieve congestion. For anyone interested in this ointment, you can call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-241-1030 for a physician referral. As a compounding pharmacist, I am delighted to report that compounding seems to be getting a lot of interest lately. In fact, just recently, our pharmacy was featured in a local magazine called The Hook.
On the topic of cold and flu, prevention is always high on my list, and one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs is to wash your hands frequently. I view this as particularly important, especially since as a pharmacist, I come in contact with more cold and flu sufferers than the average person. Yes, hand washing can be drying for the skin, but luckily, I have our Pomegranate Hand Cream at my disposal. Adequate rest and proper hydration are also important. When I feel run down, I like to take Echinadoron for immune support*. It contains echinacea, which is known to help support the immune system, as well as soothing calendula and chamomile.
Have a happy and healthy holiday!
