Top 3 Must-Have Body Oils for Spring and Summer
4/8/2011 2:23:35 PM

Spring is here at last! It’s time to banish those puffy coats, wool sweaters and leggings to the back of the closet and bring out your short shorts and sundresses, sandals and sunglasses. Just how will you get your winter-weary skin ready for the season? Our suggestion? Try a natural body oil!

Contrary to popular opinion, body oils are not just for moisturizing flaky February skin or for use during a massage. They’re also wonderful for summertime use. Weleda’s 100-percent natural body oils give your skin a healthy, radiant glow, and many of them boast refreshing summertime fragrances that will delight your senses as they nourish your skin.

The best body oils are those made with sun-ripened fruits and flowers and nourishing nut and seed oils. Forgo the ones made with artificial fragrances, synthetic preservatives and yucky petroleum-derived oils, like mineral and castor oils. Those types sit on top of the skin, blocking pores and impeding your skin’s ability to breathe. (Not to mention that the European Union bans more than 300 petroleum-derived ingredients from cosmetics because they have been classified as toxic.) In comparison, Weleda body oils are alive with the vitamins, nutrients and unsaturated fatty acids your skin needs to be healthy, beautiful and summertime smooth. The oils we use are the same as you would find in your kitchen: sesame, sunflower, almond, olive and wheat germ. Apply them right after your bath or shower, while your skin is still damp, to lock in moisture. Our body oils are easily absorbed so there’s no waiting time to get dressed.

Try these three Weleda Body Oils and your skin will be in shape for summer faster than you can "bathing suit."
1. Birch Cellulite Oil. Cellulite? Blame your genes, but don’t lose hope. Our Birch Cellulite Oil can visibly improve the appearance of cellulite. In fact, dermatological tests showed a 21-percent increase in smoothness and a 22-percent increase in tightness after just one month of twice-a-day regular use. Birch is known for its purifying and detoxifying effects; its leaves are rich in flavonoids that encourage moisture regulation. Our Birch Cellulite Oil contains an extract of organic birch leaves, organic rosemary and ruskus to promote healthy skin, as well as revitalizing apricot kernel oil, jojoba oil and vitamin-rich wheat germ oil to enliven its appearance. To use, apply a small amount of Birch Cellulite Oil to damp skin. During the first four weeks of use, massage it into your skin with circular movements, at least twice a day. For ongoing maintenance, it should be used once a day.

2. Sea Buckthorn Body Oil. When it comes to superfruit, it’s hard to top the bright yellow-orange berries known as sea buckthorn. They are scientifically reputed to contain a superrich cocktail of antioxidant vitamins A and E, as well as fatty acids and anti-inflammatory properties. Sea Buckthorn Body Oil is ideal for use after a day spent in the sun. The antioxidants fight skin-damaging free radicals, helping protect the skin from UV damage. Slather it on after your evening shower and wake to revitalized, nourished skin in the morning.

3. Citrus Refreshing Body Oil. This light body oil contains a refreshing, citrus-infused summertime fragrance that will jump-start your senses and wake up your skin. Made with energizing lemon essential oil, Citrus Refreshing Body Oil possesses skin tightening and toning properties. It’s ideal for an invigorating massage to sweep away tiredness, or you can add a few drops to a bath for an uplifting aromatherapy treat.
