The Many Benefits of Massage
9/13/2011 1:50:59 PM

A soothing massage may seem like a luxury, but in fact, it’s more than just a quick escape from the whirlwind of our busy lives. Boasting a wide range of benefits, massage can—and should be—an important part of healthy, balanced lifestyle.

The Weleda Store + Spa in Palisades, NY, is a haven for whole-body healing, thanks to our certified-massage therapist and esthetician, Patricia Pol, whose massages are deeply relaxing and restoring. I try to book her when I can; her massages always seem to restore harmony to my mind, body and senses and leave me feeling like a new person.

Just what are the benefits of massage? According to Patricia, there are many. “The benefits of massage include increased circulation, lower blood pressure, greater relaxation and less anxiety, improved sleep and decreased muscle tension, so you feel more centered, less stressed.” Massages that utilize natural, plant-based oils like Weleda’s Arnica Massage Oil will also help improve your skin tone and texture. Aromatherapy massages, done with a tension-taming oil (Weleda Lavender Relaxing Body Oil is a good one), can do double duty to help ease your mind—and your muscles. A massage with Sea Buckthorn Body Oil or Citrus Refreshing Body Oil can stimulate your senses and leave you feeling energized. (Citrus aromas are proven to lift one's mood!)

Massage can also help with localized aches and pains.  “If you have poor circulation in your legs, for instance, a daily self-massage can help increase circulation and ease pain,” says Patricia. Rubbing Arnica Massage Oil into knots on your shoulders and then applying heat on a regular basis will help melt away the tension and stress that occurs from sitting in front of a computer all day.

The many benefits of massage give us one more reason to never underestimate the healing power of touch.  So grab a bottle of Arnica Massage Oil and visit a local massage therapist in your area.  Take it from Patricia, “A massage once a month or every six weeks will change your life.”

Do you get regular massages? If so, have they changed your life? What are some of the benefits you’ve experienced? Let us know!
