4 Steps to Soft, Healthy Hands
11/8/2011 12:06:56 PM

It happens each year, about the time fall turns into winter: My hands start to feel like sandpaper, painful hangnails seem to come out of nowhere and my once healthy nails turn a brittle and frail! Does this happen to you, too?

Patricia Pol, esthetician at the Weleda Spa in Palisades, NY, says that everyone’s hands take a beating when the humidity falls, the air turns cold and the wind starts a howling. “The skin on our hands is thin and often exposed to the elements. We need to take extra good care of them this time of year.”

To help keep your hands in tip-top shape come winter, we’ve packaged our best-selling hand creams—Pomegranate, Skin Food and Sea BuckthornHands—with a pair of FREE moisturizing gloves.  Pick one up on our website or look for one at your local Weleda retailer this holiday season, and try this indulgent treatment twice a week at home before you go to bed to keep your hands beautiful, soft and healthy.

Step 1. Make a natural, gentle at-home scrub. To gently yet quickly remove dry, rough skin, mix 1 tablespoon of olive oil with 1 tablespoon cane sugar and rub gently over hands for a few minutes. Rinse off. Another option is to use our Birch Body Scrub. Made with natural plant wax pearls, sesame seed oil and apricot kernel oils will help gently remove dry skin without disturbing your skin’s natural barrier.

Step 2. Take care of your cuticles. To help prevent hangnails and keep your cuticles in top condition, apply a few drops of our Almond Soothing Facial Oil to your cuticles and massage into the nail bed. The nourishing organic sweet almond oil, rich in vitamin E, will help moisturize and condition your nails, leaving them glowing and healthy.

Step 3. Spot treat. Massage a dab of Skin Food into spots that are dry and need extra attention. Made with sunflower seed oil—rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E—as well as beeswax and soothing plant extracts like chamomile and calendula, this heavy-duty moisturizer will take care of stubborn dryness faster than you can say “Nor’easter.”

Step 4. Give your hands a beauty rest. Before turning in for the night, take advantage of our limited-edition Hand Creams with Free Moisturizing Gloves. Choose from Sea Buckthorn, Skin Food or Pomegranate. Rub the cream of your choice deeply into your hands, paying close attention to the cuticles and knuckles, and then apply the gloves. Sandpaper hands don’t stand a chance! Your hands will feel like new in the morning!
