Spring Clean Your Beauty Routine
It’s the time of year to draw back your curtains, throw open the windows, let the fresh air in, and … get out the mop for the annual spring clean we all know so well. Although at Weleda, we don’t care so much about whether your baseboards are sparkling or your pillows are fluffed. What matters to us is whether your beauty cabinet is clean and healthy for you—meaning free of conventional personal care products that contain potentially toxic chemical ingredients. Mounting evidence shows that many of these substances, including triclosan, phthalates and parabens, can alter our bodies’ healthy functioning and seep into the environment. It’s the potential...

Earth Day, Every Day
A very happy and beautiful EARTH DAY to you! While it’s important to take a day to celebrate the earth and remind ourselves to be good to the planet, it’s even more important that we continue our efforts every day of the year. We strive to do that here at Weleda. Our company is inherently connected to the earth, founded on the belief that our body, soul and spirit are intrinsically linked to our world, and we try to keep that in mind and honor the earth however and whenever we can. We know that we would never be able to bring you such wonderful products if it weren’t for the beauty and power of nature, so it’s especially important to us that we...

All Aglow for Spring
Spring brings brighter days, but alas, it doesn’t always brighten your complexion, at least not right away. Sometimes your skin needs a little help to get its glow back, and a facial can do the trick. I recently chatted with Patricia, one of our estheticians at the Weleda Spa in Palisades, NY, to find out more about why this time of year is a great time for a facial. She started by telling me why facials are beneficial in general, regardless of whether it’s January or June. “Facials deeply moisturize, cleanse, balance, exfoliate and revitalize,” she said. “The results you get with a facial are very hard to achieve at home. They keep your skin healthy,...

The New Issue of 'we' is Here!
Just in time for Earth day and a fresh spring awakening, we are thrilled to bring you the spring-summer 2010 issue of we, the Weleda lifestyle magazine. On the cover is our “you could be we” cover model contest winner, Brighid Kennedy. She was chosen from almost 100 entries, and the decision was not an easy one! Back in December, we asked you—our readers— to submit a photo and 150 words showing and telling us why you should be the face of “we.” Our email box quickly filled with the most inspiring and beautiful photos and words. You made us laugh. You brought us to tears. You lit up our faces with smiles. In the end, we had to pick just one, but in our...

Guest blogger: Weleda model Juliette Branker
You may have seen Juliette Branker in the advertisements for our Pomegranate Regenerating Body Care, and on our posters and brochures. In this guest blog, she shares her story about her life-changing experience modeling for Weleda and how she felt when she happened across her picture at Whole Foods in Manhattan! I am the lucky woman who was chosen to be  the face of Weleda’s Pomegranate Regenerating Body Care. My name is Juliette Branker, and I am 53 years young. I never knew how to act my age, and I never let it stop me from discovering this beautiful world that we live in. I had just started my modeling career when I was chosen to be one of the...

April in our Gardens: Spring has Sprung!
April is fantastic—the garden is in its full youthful splendor again! This month we will plant a few new plant species that we’ve never cultivated before, including ginseng, Cardiospermum halicacabum (balloon vine), Mesembryanthemum crystallinum (common iceplant), Alchemilla (lady’s mantle). They are all beautiful and important for our plant-based prescription medicines. We harvest Primula veris (cowslip, pictured right) this month. We use an extract from this plant in our Cordiodoron Tablets, which supports heart health. It’s a very nice but laborious plant for us. It’s very small and we have to stoop down for many hours to harvest it. But the...
