Best of Social Media: February
A big thanks to the many thousands of you who are now connecting with us on Facebook and on Twitter! I’m sure that, back in 1921, our company founders, Dr. Rudolf Steiner and Dr. Ita Wegman, could have never envisioned a day when we would engage with our fans in a digital world. But they believed in a personal approach to health care and wellness, so I think they would be happy knowing we are connecting with you and sharing our passion for beauty and wellness throughout the world, even if it's a virtual one. Weleda is about cultivating beauty with ingredients straight from the earth, and we're always trying to think up fresh ways we can...

Retailer Spotlight: Organica Natural Foods
The organic lifestyle is nothing new to John Marrone. In the late '70s, when he was just 25, he took a trip to California, where he was amazed by how many people shared his desire to live a natural, healthy life. He came back to New Jersey with a dream to open a store that would sell natural, nutritious foods for the whole body. He quickly turned that dream into a reality. In 1978, he opened Organica Natural Foods in Northvale, NJ, about 15 miles north of New York City. His brother Mark became his business partner one year later. Initially, Organica was a tiny store front, but it has since expanded three different times. It's now well-merchandised,...

An American in Germany
It’s hard to believe that it’s been just three weeks since I left Weleda North America to begin a six month stint working at Weleda AG in Germany. So far, the biggest difference I’ve noticed between Weleda AG and Weleda North America is the size of the offices. There are more than 1,000 employees working at our headquarters in Schwäbisch Gmünd, and only 30 in our office in Palisades, NY! Weleda is the top-selling natural skin care brand in Germany, but despite its large size, Weleda AG does not feel like a corporate giant. You get a feeling of life, of a living organism, when you are here. There are Koi ponds with turtles and plants everywhere, and...

Weleda Sponsors The GreenShows Eco Fashion Week
To me, Weleda is more than just a skin care company. It’s also a lifestyle. It’s about treading lightly. Giving back. Reconnecting. Finding balance. Living naturally. We are Weleda each time we buy organic food, reuse shopping bags, walk instead of drive, plant a flower or care for our skin with purely natural ingredients. It’s in this spirit, in support of the Weleda way of life, that we decided to sponsor The GreenShows Eco Fashion Week, the only event committed to environmentally friendly, ethically sound and fair trade fashion during New York Fashion Week. Over this four-day event, starting on February 14th, 10 eco-minded global designers will...

Serene Scene: Weleda Naturals in January
The Customer Center at Weleda Naturals, in the small village of Wetzgau, Germany, was built in 2006. It’s a small building on one edge of Weleda’s expansive Biodynamic® gardens, with just enough room for our visitor center, a shop, our offices and an organic restaurant, which is normally bustling with people. It is January now, however, so everything is still, peaceful and serene. The garden sleeps under nearly eight inches of snow; our ducks stay in a glass house with a heater; our tour guides are on vacation. In nice weather, when everything is in bloom, we manage sightseeing tours through the gardens, and we also hold seminars and wellness...

A Day in the Weleda Pharmacy
One of the things I love about working at Weleda is that there is always something new to learn. Just this Monday, for example, our chief pharmacist, Petra, invited me and my colleagues to stop by the compounding pharmacy inside our headquarters in Palisades, NY. It was the perfect opportunity for us to learn what Petra and her team do all day in their white coats and hair nets, surrounded by glass bottles and crazy contraptions only a mad scientist could love. What amazes me is the contrast between the stark white, sterile environment of the pharmacy and its raison d'être: to make medicines that heal people and make them feel better. Petra told us...
