Detox Time of Year
Growing up in Germany, I was always struck by the way pharmacies promoted cleansing and detoxification for the body every spring. They would decorate their windows with exercise equipment and advertise their own custom blends of cleansing teas. This tradition is still common in several European cultures, and it makes sense to me. We are part of nature, and nature renews itself in the spring. A detox, in my view, is the basis for our renewal this time of year. So in the spirit of spring cleansing, I will definitely drink some organic dandelion tea in the evenings this spring. It helps support the liver, as does milk thistle tea. Admittedly, dandelion...

Product Spotlight: Iris Moisture Cream
This week on Twitter and Facebook we’re talking about our Iris Facial Care and how it’s ideal for combination skin. So in keeping with this topic, I decided to focus on the Iris Moisture Cream for this month’s Product Spotlight. Iris Moisture Cream is wonderful all year round, but it’s especially great this time of year, when the weather starts to change and the days become sunnier and warmer. That often leads, for many of us, to a not-so-welcome increase in our skin's oil production. Natural Remedies for Sniffles and Sneezes
It is still very much winter, just ask anyone in the mid-Atlantic states, where record amounts of snow have fallen this year. It even snowed in Florida! The groundhog, it seems, wasn’t kidding when he predicted six more weeks of winter. The question of how to treat a cold comes up frequently at our Weleda pharmacy this time of the year. My advice depends on the particular complaint and symptoms.* In general, I recommend staying warm, getting plenty of rest, and drinking lots of fluids (try horsetail tea, which supports the kidneys and helps eliminate toxins). It also helps to support the immune system with Echinadoron** at the...

Product Spotlight: Euphrasia 3x Eyedrops
During the winter, the cold, dry air takes a toll on my skin and hair, but also on my eyes. They tend to become uncomfortable, dry and irritated this time of year. Indoor heat, which draws all the moisture from the air, is a major culprit; outside, the swirling, biting wind only makes matters worse. Combined with my dust allergies and 10 hours a day in front of a computer, it’s enough to drive me to tears—literally! I’ve found that the best treatment for my red, itchy eyes is a natural, preservative-free moistener that uses homeopathic herbs. Fortunately for me, Weleda has the most amazing one: Euphrasia 3x Homeopathic Eyedrops, made from organic,...
