Natural Relief from Seasonal Allergies
It is beautiful outside! Almost everything is now in bloom, and the trees are showing off their brand-new, delicate leaves. It's the season of renewal, and most of us breathe in deeply, relieved that winter is behind us. However, not everyone shares this enthusiasm. Spring can also mean the beginning of allergy season. It is estimated that up to 20 percent of the adult population suffers from seasonal allergies, and the incidence in children is rising. With warm weather expected, the pollen forecast for Palisades, NY, where our office is located, is predicted to be very high. Already we've had a large number of inquiries about homeopathic treatments...

Best of Social Media: April
This month we had a contest on Facebook where we asked you—our fans and community—to tell us how you planned to nurture the earth in celebration of Earth Day. Here are some of our favorite posts! Julie Kenny  For birthdays, I`m going to give my family and friends the gift of saving the earth...a donation to their favorite environmental group, foundation, or organization. Jennifer McBride  From now on when I walk the neighborhood with my son, we are going to pick up trash along the way. I am also going to try my best to not use non-biodegradable disposable items and make an effort to use more reusable items. Nicky Russell  I’m going to A) Recycle as...

Spring Clean Your Beauty Routine
It’s the time of year to draw back your curtains, throw open the windows, let the fresh air in, and … get out the mop for the annual spring clean we all know so well. Although at Weleda, we don’t care so much about whether your baseboards are sparkling or your pillows are fluffed. What matters to us is whether your beauty cabinet is clean and healthy for you—meaning free of conventional personal care products that contain potentially toxic chemical ingredients. Mounting evidence shows that many of these substances, including triclosan, phthalates and parabens, can alter our bodies’ healthy functioning and seep into the environment. It’s the potential...

All Aglow for Spring
Spring brings brighter days, but alas, it doesn’t always brighten your complexion, at least not right away. Sometimes your skin needs a little help to get its glow back, and a facial can do the trick. I recently chatted with Patricia, one of our estheticians at the Weleda Spa in Palisades, NY, to find out more about why this time of year is a great time for a facial. She started by telling me why facials are beneficial in general, regardless of whether it’s January or June. “Facials deeply moisturize, cleanse, balance, exfoliate and revitalize,” she said. “The results you get with a facial are very hard to achieve at home. They keep your skin healthy,...

Farmers at Heart
Happy Earth Month! At Weleda, we’re celebrating with beautiful products from beautiful earth. Take Skin Food, for instance. Five of the core plants in this intensely nourishing cream—sunflower, chamomile, pansy, rosemary and calendula (pictured)—are grown organically. Why? Because we think that amazing products begin with amazing soil. Because life nurtures life.  Because it’s the right thing to do. Because we care about you, and about the planet, too.  Weleda continually invests time, money and knowledge into building long-term, sustainable projects with our farmers and partners. Our responsible sourcing of resources and careful cultivation of plants...

Detox Time of Year
Growing up in Germany, I was always struck by the way pharmacies promoted cleansing and detoxification for the body every spring. They would decorate their windows with exercise equipment and advertise their own custom blends of cleansing teas. This tradition is still common in several European cultures, and it makes sense to me. We are part of nature, and nature renews itself in the spring. A detox, in my view, is the basis for our renewal this time of year. So in the spirit of spring cleansing, I will definitely drink some organic dandelion tea in the evenings this spring. It helps support the liver, as does milk thistle tea. Admittedly, dandelion...
