Mother & Baby Customer Questions
5/23/2014 8:00:00 AM

We get so many questions from new parents, many who are being introduced to Weleda products for the first time.  So next time you can’t decide which Weleda baby care product is best for you or your baby, give us a call (800.241.1030) or email info@weleda.com

In the meantime, here are some answers to commonly asked questions.

What are the best baby care products to give a new Mom?

We get this question a lot!  We suggest Calendula Cream Bath for baby’s first bath, Calendula Baby Oil for massage, Calendula Diaper Rash Cream in case of diaper rash, Calendula Body Cream for dry areas and as a daily barrier cream and a Calendula Baby Starter Kit for the diaper bag!

Should we use Calendula Cream Bath or Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash?

We suggest Calendula Cream Bath for newborns as it is a wonderful first bath product.  It leaves a light layer of moisture on the skin that doesn’t have to be washed off and offers protection for the delicate skin of newborns.   After six months, the Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash is convenient for hair and body and offers gentle cleansing.

Is Weleda Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash tear-free?

Yes! There are no harsh cleansers in it, and  the formulation is designed to be gentle and non-irritating. The cleansers we use are Coco-Glucoside,a gentle surfactant naturally derived from the dried pulp of coconut fruit, and Disodium cocoyl glutamate, one of the mildest amino acid cleansers, made from fermented sugar and coconut oil.

When can we start using the Children’s Tooth Gel?

We tell parents as soon as the teeth come in they can start using it.  Children’s Tooth Gel is meant for kids under the age of seven. It is fluoride-free and safe to swallow. We suggest using a wet gauze or washcloth on baby’s gums as soon as their teeth come in to get them used to mouth cleansing.

My child is suffering from eczema, could you suggest a product?

We hear you! Many Weleda co-workers have dealt with this issue with their own children! Our new Baby Derma White Mallow line is perfect for eczema on the face and body.  It is fragrance-free and contains soothing extracts for itchy, dry skin.  Make a habit of putting lotion on those areas that get irritated and itchy, such as elbows and under knees, whenever you are changing baby’s diaper.  Keeping the skin hydrated will stop them from scratching which can lead to infection.

Can I use Birch Cellulite Oil while I am pregnant?

The Birch Cellulite Oil is not recommended during pregnancy, because the body needs to retain moisture in the tissues at this time and it will not help prevent the stretch marks that may come with a quickly expanding belly. It will, however, help after birth to firm skin, so that’s a great time to use it. During pregnancy, we recommend using our Stretch Mark Massage Oil to prevent stretch marks.

What can I use to moisturize my skin while I am pregnant?

For a moisturizer you can safely use any of our body oils or lotions, but the Sea Buckthorn Body Oil is the most outstanding due to its high content of bioflavonoids.
