Top Three Frequently Asked Baby Care Questions
5/30/2014 8:00:00 AM

The thing I love most about my job at Weleda is getting to talk to all the new and expecting parents out there who are looking for the right products to use on their little ones. My daughter may be two, but I still consider myself a new mom, which means I always have a million worries and questions over everything from potty training to discipline to nutrition. I hope that when I talk to new parents like myself, I can shed some light on skincare for babies and children—something I do know a little bit about!

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we get from new parents at the baby expos we attend.

Q. Do you have anything that will help my child’s eczema?

 A. This is the most common question I hear from parents. Fortunately, Weleda just launched two new products, our new White Mallow Body Lotion and Face Cream, which are specifically formulated for atopic and highly sensitive skin. The key ingredients–white mallow, pansy and borage seed oil –have been used for forever in homeopathic ointments for eczema. Both products have been accepted by the National Eczema Association. We recommend using the Body
Lotion twice a day all over the body and the Face Cream on the face or as a spot cream on flare ups. You could still bathe infants with Calendula Cream Bath, avoiding drying soaps, and use the Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash for children.

Q. Why should I use your products over something simple like just coconut oil?

A. Natural oils like coconut and olive oil, are moisturizing but they are just one ingredient. Our products have a combination of ingredients that are meant to work together to deliver the best benefit for babies’ skin. They contain skin-benefiting properties found in chamomile and calendula, which are very soothing, calming, warming and healing. We also have beeswax, almond oil and sesame seed oil in our products, which help protect a baby’s newly form skin barrier. Finally, there’s the natural essential oil fragrance, which is comforting and many people love the way it smells on their baby’s skin. Plus, coconut oil is not going to get rid of diaper rash!

Q. Are your products really all natural?

A. Yes. Totally. Weleda products are certified natural by the European certifier NaTrue. We do not use any worrisome ingredients in the products: no EDTA, parabens, synthetic fragrance, urea, petroleum-derived ingredients, sulfates, phenoxyethanol (a chemical preservative companies use so they can claim “paraben-free”), artificial colors, PEG, phthalates or triclosan. Just to make a few.
