Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
Valerian is a perennial herb with many varied forms. Naturalized in northeastern America, it is now extensively cultivated in most of Europe and the U.S. Traditional Greek medicine prescribed Valerian for insomnia. It is indicated in Homeopathy for sleeplessness and restlessness due to nervous irritation (see A Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica by John Clarke, MD, 3rd ed. 1987, vol. III, p. 1497).
